Renaissance Charleston Hotel Removes Trans Fats from All Menus; First Charleston Hotel to Serve Health-Conscious Customers
Charleston, SC (PRWeb) February 22, 2007 -- The Renaissance Charleston Hotel Historic District has made groundbreaking strides in the area, becoming the first official hotel in the city to remove all trans fats from hotel menus and other food outlets.
The elimination, according to Marriott International, is the culmination of an eight-year effort to remove trans fats from the vast majority of food served at more than 2,300 Marriott International hotels throughout the U.S. and Canada.
"We are pleased to announce the hotel's transition to trans fat-free menus," said Bryan Thompson, director of sales and marketing for the hotel. "Our conversion is in tandem with Marriott International's commitment to being an industry leader in helping its guests to live healthy lifestyles."
Marriott has already eliminated trans fats from artisan breads, salad dressings, pancake and waffle mixes, muffins, croissants and cookies at all hotels in the U.S. and Canada. The historic Charleston hotel is proud to serve Marriott's philosophy of great ingredients prepared simply and with perfect execution in its Charleston restaurant, Wentworth Grill.
In 2003 Marriott introduced the Fit For You program at Marriott and JW Marriott Hotels & Resorts and last year the company introduced the Eat.Drink.Balance program at Renaissance Hotels & Resorts. According to Marriott International, both programs were designed to address healthy eating and dietary issues including low fat, low cholesterol and carb-conscious foods. Food sold in Marriott's retail stores and breakfast, lunch, dinner and room service menus identify which items fit these categories.
