Reports Reveal Critical Role of Convenience in Access to Health

Mountain View, CA (PRWEB) October 22, 2007 -- The two latest reports from the Vimo Research Group find that convenience is emerging as a major factor for Americans seeking health care. More and more families are turning to retail health care clinics because of their short wait times and accessible locations. At the same time, lack of streamlined and convenient enrollment procedures may be discouraging many Americans from obtaining health insurance.

Vimo's "Retail Health Care Clinics Overview" provides a comprehensive look at the emergence of in-store "convenient care" clinics, located inside pharmacies like CVS and Walgreens. These clinics are staffed by nurse practitioners, physician assistants and other health professionals -- but generally not by doctors.

Growth of these clinics is exploding. In 2000, only one in-store clinic existed in the U.S. By the end of 2008, several thousand of these clinics will be operating nationwide. The clinics do not require clients to have insurance. They are usually open on weekends and outside business hours, allowing students and people who work during the week to visit when they would like.

A separate Vimo Research Group brief, "The Uninsured in America", examines the latest Census data on the growing numbers of Americans living without insurance, and finds that convenience could be a factor in the increasing national uninsured rate.

While uninsured rates are rising among all groups, the problem is most pronounced among children. The report finds that many Americans are not enrolling their children in the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), even though they qualify for the program. A likely cause of the lower enrollment numbers is a lack of streamlined and convenient enrollment procedures for the program.

Why Fiber Is A Very Healthy Addition To A Good Diet
Despite the hype that too often accompanies the praise, fiber is a very healthy addition to a good diet. It's no miracle cure, but a substantial amount of insoluble fiber does help move material through the colon faster. It has a cleansing effect on the digestive system. By improving the solidity and bulk of solid waste it also helps to keep those who are aging more regular, less constipated. The result, supported by many studies, is (among other benefits) a reduction in the odds of colon cancer.
