Keep that 2007 New Year's Resolution and Get Your Pet Into Shape with Fitness Camp at Dog Paddle Hydrotherapy & Wellness

Pasadena, California (PRWeb) December 13, 2006 - According to a recent report, at least 40 percent of America's pet population is overweight. Many veterinarians believe obesity is the greatest health issue facing America's pets today, causing unnecessary suffering and cutting short a pet's lifespan. Just like in humans, health concerns from obesity are great and may include joint pain, heart and respiratory disease, diabetes, liver and heart disease, skin problems and gastrointestinal disorder. But being overweight does not have to be a life sentence for your beloved dog, thanks to Dog Paddle Wellness in Pasadena.

Start the new year off right by enrolling your dog in this unique Fitness Camp. Combining nutritional counseling with a diverse set of exercises, this course can add years to the life of your pet. Whether your beloved pet needs to get into shape, maintain its current weight, heal from an injury or surgery, or simply sustain a healthy lifestyle into old age, Dog Paddle helps your pet live the best life they can. Opening its doors June 5th, 2006 in the Rose City Veterinary Hospital, the experienced professionals at Dog Paddle know the importance of a loving animal companion.

The Fitness Camp begins with a through evaluation in which "Fido" gets weighed and measured. Fido then starts his regimen of massage and stretching, followed by Hydrotherapy underwater treadmill sessions, ideally twice a week. The Hydrotherapy sessions begin at 10 minutes and increase gradually to 24 minutes. Fido's weight will be checked weekly to track his progress and owners will receive nutritional counseling and an exercise program to continue at home.

"We believe that fitness is very important to the health of our pets," explains Dog Paddle Director Gael Parks, L.Ac, D.Hom (Med). "Being involved in the holistic industry for the past 35 years has taught me the importance of preventative health care. There is no better preventative health care than diet and exercise… and that goes for both pets and humans."

Fitness Camp is just one aspect of Dog Paddle. Available for both cats and dogs, other services include acupuncture, massage and chiropractic treatments. There is also dry treadmill exercise, stretching, flexibility, and theraball work. Pulsed Signal Therapy (PST) is a patented wave length that mimics the body's electrical signals to create new cartilage which begins during treatment and continues once initiated by PST. Cold laser therapy treats deep tissue at the cellular level. Reiki is an ancient Japanese practice of laying hands, and a number of other traditional Chinese treatments are also offered at Dog Paddle. Founded by Parks, Dog Paddle's fully licensed and trained staff has the expertise necessary to plan the best treatment program for your pet, and to provide the best therapeutic treatments possible.

"It is so easy to put weight on a dog or to allow a pet to get out of shape," adds Margaret Rudoy, Dog Paddle's head rehabilitation therapist. "Even a couple pounds on a small dog can cause serious health problems and add significant strain to their weight-bearing joints. And if there are several family members giving the dog treats, than it is easy to see how the dog is getting too many calories. That's where our fitness camp comes in."
